Peter Farnan

Peter Farnan is the founding member and songwriter for Boom Crash Opera  and seminal post-punk band Serious Young Insects.

In addition to his songwriting, performing and producing, he has worked extensively in theatre and film. His scores for MTC have included Rockabye, Moonlight and Magnolias, All My Sons, The Clean House, Ray’s Tempest, Take Me Out, Three Days Of Rain, Cheech, Boy Gets Girl and Hitchcock Blonde (the latter two receiving Green Room nominations).

For Malthouse Peter has worked on Woyzeck (sound designer/ musical director/ additional composition), Tartuffe (composer/sound designer) and Sleeping Beauty (Musical Director), for which he received a nomination for a Helpmann Award.

He was musical director (and occasional performer) for all stage iterations of The Sapphires. (MTC/Belvoir Company B in 2004 – 5 and Black Swan/Belvoir Company B in 2010-11), including tours to the UK and South Korea. 

He has worked with QTC, NICA,  OzOpera, , Theatreworks, Melbourne Workers Theatre and Back To Back/Theatre Of Speed. 

In 2013 he was musical director and composer for the feature film The Boy Castaways where he worked with Megan Washington, Paul Capsis and Tim Rogers.

He has a Masters in Sound Design by Research from Melbourne University, where he teaches songwriting and composition.

His journalism occasionally appears in the Daily Review and The Conversation.

Pesky Bones is his latest songwriting and production project, where he creates songs and guest vocalist perform the songs.
